Passports and other travel documents play a key role in creating a safe and secure travel ecosystem.
Passports and other travel documents are essential to ensuring safe and efficient international travel. Modern identification documents equipped with electronic chips, advanced biometric matching technologies and automated eGates help facilitate border crossings while enhancing security and improving the travel experience for citizens.
Together with our German partner Veridos, we are proud to contribute to the development of a new national passport issuance infrastructure for the People's Republic of Bangladesh. The project aims to establish a state-of-the-art passport system designed to serve the country's population of more than 160 million citizens.
The Bangladesh system covers the entire passport issuance and management process, from application submission and data processing to document production, transportation and final delivery to citizens.
The new passports are designed to facilitate more efficient border crossings and enable easier use of automated eGates. At the time of the project, it was estimated that more than 30 million ePassports would be issued over the following five to ten years, contributing to the creation of new high-tech jobs.
Why Is the New Bangladeshi ePassport So Difficult to Forge?
The passport cover is made from an innovative textile material that is highly resistant to tearing, chemicals, moisture, perspiration and heat. Particular attention was also paid to making the passport environmentally friendly.
The security features of the new passport have been significantly enhanced. The passport holder's photograph is now printed in colour, allowing border officers to verify identities more accurately.
An embedded electronic chip stores biometric information, including facial images, fingerprints and iris scans. In addition, a secondary image of the passport holder's portrait is engraved into a transparent section of the document, helping prevent manipulation after issuance and facilitating visual authentication.
The new ePassport also incorporates MAGIC-ID technology, which displays the Bangladeshi flag with a visual effect that makes it appear to flutter when viewed from different angles.
Together, these advanced security features make the new Bangladeshi ePassport exceptionally difficult to counterfeit.
We are proud to contribute to the progress of Bangladesh, a country whose strong economic growth has placed it among the 11 leading developing countries, as described in the original project account.
With the establishment of a modern, high-tech passport manufacturing facility, Bangladesh is taking another step towards technological advancement, supported by the expertise of specialists from Germany and Serbia.
The Bangladesh project further demonstrates the trust placed in Veridos Netset to deliver complex and sensitive national projects. This recognition is particularly meaningful to us.
We take great pride in contributing to the country's development through our work. It reinforces our belief that our commitment, knowledge and expertise can make a meaningful difference.
